WHAT IS ACCESS INSTIGATORS?
About the Program
Access Instigators is a flexible hybrid and part-time program created for multiply marginalized Disabled media workers in the US.
Up to 10 cohort members will participate in a fully virtual Education Core in addition to virtual Mentoring and on-the-job training as a Production Accessibility Trainee across a variety of media and production phases through remote and in-person opportunities.
Access Instigators is designed to build skills and resumes to prepare participants for immediate hiring on professional productions. We aim to center intersectional Disability Justice concepts in production environments, broadening functional accessibility skills while deepening understanding of Disability Culture’s important past, current, and potential future impacts within the entertainment industry. While prioritizing essential Disabled leadership, this program utilizes an Access for All framework which de-segregates disabled needs to craft holistic inclusionary spaces.

**IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to current industry inequality and structural Audism, we are not able to equally recommend Production Accessibility careers to ASL-sole communicators at this time.
In response and through community feedback, this program has decided NOT to provide regular ASL or Protactile Interpretation for participants this round. Instead of offering an accessible training space when we know career opportunities remain unequal, we are reallocating resources to support d/Deaf-led advocacy as we fight together for ASL-accessible production and the inclusion of existing Sign Language-related production roles and pipelines.
We recognize that this difficult decision deeply limits access to this program for many d/Deaf and DeafBlind participants as well as non-speakers and others who utilize ASL as a sole or primary form of communication. If you are still committed to applying this round, we are dedicated to supporting applicants with a desire to infiltrate challenging spaces in creative ways. We strongly recommend that you have an interest in pursuing multi-modal forms of on-set communication - personal captioning, text to speech, text apps, AADs, light cuing, etc. - and a passion for ASL, interpreter access for below the line crew, and d/Deaf and DeafBlind advocacy.
We plan to include ASL in future rounds as the industry progresses and can offer equal and ample opportunities for career growth to all those who are selected to participate in our programming.
